With senses stimulated by eucalyptus leaves and the sound of birds singing, a group of keen artists recently attended a workshop capturing the Australian bush headed by Victoria Collins. Victoria took her students on a journey through the layers laid down over years of growth degeneration and regrowth along with the creatures that give the bush its sights, sounds and feel.
Keeping colour theory and composition in mind, they were guided through the painting building similar layers. In order to leave background undisturbed, placement of trees was identified by tape offering a sense of excitement when finally revealed. The addition of ticks of light and flicks of colour represented the birds and insects buzzing around and specks of sunlight a final touch. Victoria's message was to have fun while connecting with the subject.

At the March '24 get together Leona from S & S Art Supplies showcased a variety of new products for members to experiment with.
All enjoyed some wonderful new soft pastels and vibrant watercolour inks. There was also a great range of drawing materials including oil and charcoal pencil.

Nicki Hall's pastels workshop
Eleven very enthusiastic MADAG members recently attended this two day workshop. Nicki demonstrated the process emphasizing the importance of preparation; the application of darks leading to lights and most importantly, value in colours. As usual, Nicki was very generous with her knowledge and assistance to all attendees. The first day was spent with a demo by her followed by each artist working on that same subject. The following day with the use of their own subject matter and substrate, each artist was guided individually. See the results....
